Donate

Your support of Seniors’ Community Services will help provide Seniors, and adults with physical disabilities the opportunities to access services that optimize health and independence. Your support will encourage and enhance a healthy life for our seniors and the community as a whole.

As a small community service organization, we rely on donations to bridge the gap our funders are unable to fill. With your kindness and generosity our vision for ensuring seniors live well at home will continue to flourish.

Your donation will help us maintain the quality and quantity of our services and programs and continue to respond to the evolving needs of our community.

How will you impact your community?

Your generosity will ensure seniors, many whom face the financial restraints, can access services without the stress of high costs. You will help increase access to nutritious meals through the Meals on Wheels Program, transportation to vital medical appointments and ensure all seniors are not limited by personal or financial limitations.

How can you donate?

One Time donation: This can be directed to a service that is close to your heart such as Meals on Wheels, or to the general fund that supports all programs and services.

Monthly donation: This is an ongoing donation of support that is easily set up online, or by contacting our office. Monthly giving allows you to make a bigger charitable impact, and provides an opportunity to be an ongoing champion for seniors, and adults with physical disabilities in YOUR community.

In Honour Tribute: Honour a friend, colleague or family member with a donation celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday, graduation or anniversary.

In Memory Tribute: Recognize SCS as a charitable donation option following the death of a loved one. It can be a meaningful giving option for family and friends.

Planned Giving: A legacy gift is a planned future gift that designates some part of an individual's estate as a donation. This is a powerful gift that creates a direct and lasting impact on the continued work of SCS. If you have questions about planning a donation please contact Dawn Rodger at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC)

Programs

Seniors’ Centre Without Walls

Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) is only a phone call away!

Through the use of multi-person phone calls, SCWW provides the opportunity for participants to join in on health and wellness seminars, educational lectures, brain-stimulating activities, listen to live musical entertainment, join in on general conversations, and make new and meaningful friendships – all from the comfort of home! It works just the same as attending a class or a lecture at the centre, but instead it is facilitated over the telephone.

Some of the programs include Name that Tune, Short Stories and Trivia. A great way to spend half an hour connecting with friends.

Diners club

The Diners' Club is a social lunch at the centre each Wednesday. A hot meal is prepared and served by volunteers in the comfort of the dining room. A wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends, old and new. Guest speakers are scheduled throughout the year.

Enjoy themed lunches celebrating the holidays throughout the year! Reservations must be made the day before 12:00 pm.

Activities at the Centre

Seniors' Community Services offers a wide variety of fun activities held weekly at the centre including:

  • Euchre
  • Skip-Bo
  • Cribbage

Yak-Yarn

Yak & Yarn is a weekly gathering at the SCS Centre for those who love to knit, crochet, quilt and craft. Experienced or a newbie, it is a wonderful opportunity to get together and share skills, ideas and fun.

Stretch and Strengthen Exercise Classes

A trained instructor will lead and support you to a healthier, more active lifestyle.

Mindful Movement

Offered by instructor Julia Cavanagh

8-Week Exercise Program

Mindful Movement: Beginner Level 10:00-11:00

Build strength, balance, and confidence, one mindful motion at a time.

This welcoming small group class is designed for newcomers and those looking for a supportive pace. Participants will focus on seated and standing exercises that enhance mobility, posture, hand health, and overall body awareness. Using light bands, weights, and the wall for support, participants will move through gentle full body strength training, balance challenges, and coordination drills. The goal is to leave each session feeling stronger, steadier, and more connected.

Mindful Movement: Advanced Level 11:15-12:15

Challenge your strength, stability, and coordination with power and control.

For those ready to take their movement to the next level, this advanced class builds on the foundational Mindful Movement program with more standing work, dynamic balance sequences, and flowing full body strength circuits. Participants can expect greater intensity, more continuous movement, and functional exercises that challenge endurance and coordination, while maintaining the same mindful focus on form, breath, and body control.

All materials are provided. Each week a different art activity will be introduced, however there will always be a variety of art materials available to choose from. Patricia will provide instruction and hands-on assistance when needed. Art projects and themes will be determined each week by the interests of the people attending the group.

Examples of art activities: experimenting with watercolor, printing with acrylic paint, clay sculptures, mixed-media collage, creating a memory box, working with materials from nature, pour painting. Beginners Hatha Yoga for seniors offered by Yoga instructor Sandy Guest.

Yoga is an anti-aging practice. It promotes the feeling of well-being by toning both the body and mind. It helps to maintain coordination, flexibility and, balance and improves our agility. Most yoga poses are designed to create space in our bodies. Lengthening the spine in downward dog and child creates space between each vertebra, which then improves nerve conduction to all organs, so everything is working and flows better. Also, as we age, our bones lose density and our joints become stiff. A gentle yoga practice slows the loss of bone density and relieves bone and joint pain.
